Advice buying car with an engine change
Discussion
Sorry if posted it in the wrong place
been offered a audi a7,
To cut it short milage is 115,000 dealer said a Replacement engine was fitted which has 89,000 so clock now has 89,000
Also m.o.t was done this year with the 115,000 miles and then i presume after the engine was fitted m.o.t has been done again showing the 89,000 milage
I have queried this and the garage said that where he got the car from they said the dash and engine came out of the same car? both needed to be fitted else the car would not of started and that they are coded together?
is the garage correct about needing both the clock and engine for it to work?
Engine comes with 1 year warranty apparently

Doesn't sound right to me, it is definitely not standard practice to change the car's mileage when the engine is replaced. What they're telling you isn't correct
I'd walk away unless it's silly cheap, there are plenty more out there. One which has done a few more miles with a better history would be a smarter buy.

Last week I hung a new Magic Tree in my car, so I'm now claiming it's a 2018 car, and as the Magic Tree has only travelled 17 miles I had the mileage reset.
OP, leave that lemon alone. There's nothing wrong with an engine change as such, but they are lying about the reasons behind the mileage change, so,
- if they're lying about that (so they can claim it's under 100k miles probably), what else are they lying about?
- You'll have the same tale to tell when you come to get rid of it. Enjoy trying to shift that on.
