I think that is about right. I have a few I/C Porsches that I will hang onto but they will be historical artifacts. I have avoided hybrids and electric cars at this stage as I expect they will be inevitable. t will keep the conversion to sports cars till last.

I could see the Taycan Sport Turismo as possibly the first electric Porsche I would consider, and by the time the electric 911 comes ai expect I will probably be too old to bother with pure sports cars anywaysmile

I can't really imagine what place a super fast electric sports car will serve in the future.

All cars will be tracked for speed and driver behaviour plus will most probably be self driving.

Either way, the 981 Cayman I bought brand new in 2013 and have now clocked up nearly 100K miles would appear to still be the best car for my needs. I think cars turning into 'white goods' will be saving me huge amounts of money in the future!!

Interesting article.

“it is little short of sensational that Porsche has its mindset focused on a brand-new all-electric 911, which will be offered in addition to the conventional 992 replacement.” eek

As hydrogen is clearly the way forward I’ve never understood why they waste time with inefficient and environmentally unfriendly batteries. They’ll need a 400 mile range with the heater on full blast and 2 min charging before I’m buying one, no matter how good the instant torque in a two tonne battery Cayman..

That is how I feel....by the time the 911 is electric I am not sure I’ll be buying new 911’s. Taycan Sport Turismo is on the radar but it’s range/charging time that’s the issue for me...I drive out to the Alps for family ski trips twice a year.

I'm just so glad to have been part of a generation who were able to go out and enjoy the internal combustion engine and drive cars that were not so loaded up with technical gizmos directed at "safety" and enabling "others" to keep track on what we were doing/where we were. Artificial intelligence is a dangerous developing problem. Like others have posted, I'll be past driving when electric Porsches (and other makes) are the norm. Hope i'm not being too pessimistic. Enjoy the noise and excitement while you're able!

Interesting in the Autocar as well, is the editorial comment that the new e-Golf is the Best Golf ever .
Funny when you live with them , they simply are far superior as a mode of Transport and I am sure the Porsche Product will again be special .
As said before , I love a car only doing 5 mpg as then it is being used but residents in cities need EV's

From what I've read your average motorist won't want anything else in ten year's time purely on the basis of price. The expectations for the advances in EV technology imply that internal combustion engined cars will just be so much more expensive to buy that nobody will consider them.
