Inspire me. Current daily in serious danger of being rejected and I will just be looking to buy something reasonably new (cash, no leasing/PCP this time)

Shouldn't have got rid of the Focus ST wagon really, but it felt like the net was closing with several stolen Fords this year not a million miles away and Ford were not prepared to let us extend the PCP for another 12 months.

Must be reasonable on fuel, ST was doing 46mpg so don't want to be too far away from that really. Reasonable boot, heated seats, apple carplay essential. Something not dull and beige preferable.

Current front runners are Golf GTD and BMW 320d MSport (although I need to understand when BMW introduced carplay, looks like about 2017 so may stuggle with the budget there)

Passat is a good shout. Don't really seem to be any more expensive than the equivalent golf either.

Can't believe I didn't think of the Mondeo. My brother had the previous generation in 2.2 TDCI form and it was a fantastic car.

I have a 210 Vignale & it's been great, I will say the lighter Ivory interior makes it feel like a step above the regular model, the after sales service has been second to none (coming from someone who's mainly had Mercedes, I will say their service has been on par) I've been averaging 42-44mpg.

I have been suitably impressed I looked at the Passat but found the Mondeo the better car.
