I’m in the market for a something a bit retro. I’m thinking Triumph Thruxton or Street Cup, XSR 900 Abarth or the BMW rninet racer.

Just wondered if anyone has been through this process. I’m tempted towards the Martini striped BM based on the looks and also the price of nearly new low mileage ones is only around 7500 - 8k so a lot of bike for the money compared to the thruxton 1200 which are about £2k more.

The one thing bugging me is the fact that there are nearly 50 BMs for sale on autotrader and they don’t seem to sell very well. Retail on them is about £11k but there are bikes for sale with less than 100 miles on at £8k.

I’ve ridden the racer and without doubt it is heavy on the arms at town speeds, I’m presuming the Abarth is too, if not more so. Obviously the triumph thruxton or street cup would probably be less punishing for a mixture of riding

I’m hoping to drop on an end of season bargain but just wondering whether I might be stuck with the bmw racer but then I’m thinking “how much more money could they really lose given the drop they appear to have taken from rrp

Any thoughts folks ?

They are a trendy bike currently, values will continue to tank, especially as the hipsters move onto the next trend, also they are M Sport stripes rather than Martini ones ....

I'd buy a Thruxton R as they seem to be slightly more in demand.

Sorry for the boring reply, but go test ride them, I suspect you will click / like one bike more than the others.

For my money I would go the the Thruxton R

Definitely at least sit on an rninet racer before making a decision. They’re more leant over than most sportsbikes. I had a short ride and found it very uncomfortable. That was the end of that for me - and I think I’m not alone as, like you say, they’re not selling despite snappy pricing.

Go well enough though, an older chap was running one in inters at a trackday I was at earlier this year - and whilst it was slow, it wasn’t completely out of its dept - looked great riding around Silverstone too

Yam XSR 900 arbath.

Modern retro, triple, rare, lots of goodies, 10k or less brand new with warranty.

Riding position is a bit extreme, but I like it.

Martini ....light blue, dark blue, red. It’s where it all began.
