Have run a few bikes here, since living in Thailand. The CB 650 F was a great long distance bike and did a lot of fun long trips, exploring a lot of this great country.
Did over 16,000 k in just over a year. But it was a heavy piece of kit and wasn't good to just pop down the town on.

So bought a Ducati Scrambler 62 last year and pleased as punch with the bike. Goes any where, off road, great on Thai twisty roads and easy to use local transport. Never thought of changing it, was a keeper.

Then saw an advert for a Triumph 900 Thruxton! Local lad who wants a ' lighter ' bike and willing to do a sensible trade against the Scrambler.

Arranged to meet on Sunday and swop to do a ride, to see how we both feel about each other's bikes.

Any thoughts on thoughts on the Triumph ? What should I expect as a fun machine? Any foibles that I should look out for.

Love the Ducati........but this machine just looks the 'nuts' !

Pics of the Scrambler, would like both but Thai insurance won't do a 'multi ' policy, so they both would need individual policies.

By your own admission you have for you the ideal bike for where you are and what you use it for, so my question would be, whats the upside for you in changing ?

Yes, very good point. But we all look for that next piece of kit that will uplift the spirits when we take it out for a ride.

I was an early Triumph owner in the UK, had a Thruxton Boneville in early sixties, and this is a 'modern ' version of the old range......but starts easily and doesn't leak oil all over the parking spot!

Would love to own both, but just not practical. Looking for comments about ownership foibles, so I have a clue what are the pros and cons before Sunday.

Not sure I would get the same daily use the Ducati gives me, but it does look a serious bit of kit.

I've had this one for a couple of years, it's one of the older carb models. It has some aftermarket Triumph pipes on and makes a glorious noise with popping and banging on the overrun.

Not blazing fast but quick enough for me.

Love the riding experience but probably going to let it go as it's now a bit wrist heavy for me. I did think about putting some riser bars on it but also having the burning urge for a Suzuki GT750 - so many bikes, so little time smile

My old man had one for a couple of years, never really got on with it, it’s a properly heavy thing, not comfy, not quick and it doesn’t really handle. Fine for pootling down to a cafe if that’s your thing but the next generation of cafe racers do everything else a lot better. The guy he sold it to sold it on after 2 months as he felt the same.

One of my good friends also has one, also had it about 2 years, he loves it but he has only ever ridden the ER6 he did his test on and that, and has probably done about 500 miles in total. I’ve ridden his and it’s not a massively pleasant thing to ride, PERSONALLY I can’t really see a redeeming factor with them but different horses for different courses!!
