What discount you can achieve depends on many factors. Colour of car, Spec, how long it's sat on the forecourt, how near the salesman is to his additional bonuses etc etc. I know of one dealership that when the X1 was launched were sent a Brown car with not a great spec. It sat in the middle of the showroom for ages and when someone seriously showed interest in buying it the manager kept the showroom open to seal the deal they were that desperate to get rid of it.
Cash does you no favours. It's usually best to say using their finance and then either just before collection change to all cash, or shortly after taking delivery call the finance team to settle. If you do the latter then do your homework to settlement terms. Taking finance will usually mean additional discounts.
Have a look around the 5 Forum.
If buying a 12 month old one then seriously look at new through a broker as discounts will be very good (15-20%)

Thanks for the reply. What do you mean when you say buy through a broker ? I dont really know anything about cars or buying them.Cash does you no favours. Just back from the bmw garage. Ended up test driving a 5 series m sport 530D beautiful car to drive, so bare in mind i told the dealer my absolute top budget was 35k he let me drive one at 39k and then proceeded to try and sell me the car after the test deive. Told him i would give him 35k cash today and what was my maximum budget cheeky c**t said i cant take even a penny off the price and in fact there is £450 to be added to the price for road tax lol
So i am guessing its impossible to get anything off a car nowadays buying cash.

I bought a new car 4 months ago (not a BMW, a VW) but for the money they wanted for a year old car, I ordered a brand new car to my exact spec and colour for just a few hundred quid more.
They can’t sell new cars especially diesel at the moment so use that to your advantage.
I also paid cash and going though the online brokers as previously stated, saved my close to £10k off list. I used Orange Wheels but not sure what they’re like on BMW’s
Good luck either way.

I've just bought a 520d that was 43k new for 31k as ex demo. Pushed for the finance option with a plan to pay off in 14 days but couldn't get any discount for taking their finance whatsoever.
This was with Coopers, his exact words were 'we can't discriminate on finance these days'.
Carwow had quotes for a 530d msport with 4k of options for 41-42k but I couldn't justify it. I tried to get the 530d quote matched by a local dealer and he said there is a bit of a trend for people to quote low on carwow to get you through the door, then the actual price increases although I've got no evidence either way.
