STR or v2 Tuono
Discussion
So I've got an itch for another bike and fancy a naked with some go. I haven't ridden either yet but am considering a v2 Tuono..prob a Factory, or a STR or RX. I'm a trumpet man normally but see the Factory as a good alternative and maybe one that will hold its money..any thoughts?

The STR would be a 675

There are loads of options and the Tuono has the best electronics package (if thats your thing) I test rode most of the big nakeds 4 years ago. I found the Tuono riding position still a bit too much on the sporty side for me and of course, its not really "naked" with more plastic than some sportsbikes. Its more like a sportsbike with flat bars
At the time I ended up with an MV Brutale 1090RR and still enjoy riding it now. Its virtually upright and roomy riding position, but lacks the latest electronics with just basic TC and ABS. Over recent years the choice has widened with so many nice, pokey naked bikes on the market, from a performance perspective any of them are "more than enough" on the road, so it comes down to looks, comfort, and who has a deal on.

If you are not afraid that Aprilia will drop a valve and grenade its engine, and you can stomach the service costs, then by all means get an Aprilia. Tuono Factory is supposed to be the best in supernaked class.
I am thinking about naked as well, though not decided yet if I want to switch (or diversify rather) to nakeds, but if I do the only choices for me are either Street Triple RS or Speed Triple RS, with preference towards the Speed Triple RS.
I rode both RS and the Factory Tuono, I liked them all, but I am smitten with Speed Triple RS (Street is a contender because it is 25kg lighter and on the street the firepower of Speed is not really needed).

I’ve had my Gen 2 R for about 2 and a half years now. It’s been pretty much faultless in my ownership bar a speed sensor when I first got it.
It handles well, stops well and has a huge amount of grunt considering it’s only got around 135Bhp (running Map 2 with Titanium Akrapovics)
It isn’t a comfortable bike however.
Mine is a late 2009 model in Code Orange which is a very rare colour scheme in this country.

I would be going for the Speed Triple rather than the Tuono, just because of the riding position and lack of fairings. Im riding a big "naked" bike because I want a less extreme riding position, and prefer the styling without fairings .
I guess it depends how big you are, but the 675 seemed a bit small when I sat on one. I really wanted to like the MV Brutale 800 triple and test rode with a view to buying, but just found it a little cramped compared to the 1090.

Yeah an 08/09 Gen 2 with the solid lump. I'm 6' so maybe a STR will feel small.
Yep, it will. A Speed Triple is about the right size if you are six foot. The Aprilia V2 Rotax engine is pretty solid. It's just the rest of the components that can fail / be hard to obtain. Usually the smaller annoying stuff.

Thanks..I see a nice low miles 2010 model R for sale nearby at £5k in black. I actually prefer the look of it to the Factory, however, I'm mindful the Factory will be the one to have in years to come...decisionsIt handles well, stops well and has a huge amount of grunt considering it’s only got around 135Bhp (running Map 2 with Titanium Akrapovics)

The factory will be more sought after in the future yeah. The standard suspension on the R is pretty good if you get it set up, obviously the Ohlins on the factory is a bit better but it’s not night and day, I’d say I’d have the factory lighter wheels over the suspension any day. Trouble is having to live with that gold frame
