A farm local to me has started doing veg box deliveries every fortnight. There are a few staple items with the rest what's seasonal.

This week's box; leeks, spuds (new, sweet and baking), onions, carrots, spinach, turnip, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower. This box was a tenner.
Anyone use a similar service, if so do they work out or is there wastage? I'm thinking it will force me into cooking different stuff plus it's good to support local suppliers.

I love the idea of local veg boxes and for a tenner it doesn't look too bad. Sure you could buy the contents for less but *IF* the produce is local and direct from growers then fair enough.
- IF* because all the ones I have seen include items that are being resold from wholesale or from large scale producers and not local.
From what I can gather it's all local. The spinach is packeted up but is labelled to the farm it's grown at, not the same one as the veg box farm but another one (local again).
To be honest I'm not too fussy when it comes to veg. Even suede and turnip are good when covered in salted butter. I will accept that some items may not get eaten though, especially if there is a lot of one particular item. I couldn't eat turnip all week (no matter how much I like Lotus).
Cheers for the comments, I shall report back on how it goes.
Cauliflower cheese tomorrow, something I wouldn't of done otherwise.

I get a weekly organic veg box from a company called Greener Greens, based in Surrey.
At £16 a go it is more expensive than the 'national' schemes, but there's less packaging and the produce is fresher.
The point of delivery for me was to a. Force me to be more creative in what I cook; b. Save petrol money and avoid impulse buys visiting shops.

I spotted a local greengrocer doing a box via facebook today. Will investigate more when I have time, looked reasonable value at a £10.
Previously I've done Riverford - great produce, comes with a little bit of bumf including recipes. Too many butternut bloody Squash.
Able and Cole, didn't get on with it for some reason, seem to recall produce not as good as Riverford and I think I had a delivery issue as well.
Both were more than £10.
