OK, I already have one, but noticed this one in the NE at that salvage place:

https://www.classicandsportscar.com/classifieds/cl...

It doesn't SAY it's a repaired car, and the price has been dropped £5k from the Car & Classic listing!

https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1026559

I tried a dummy run on Autotrader to see it has an insurance category and the reg no comes back as a Mercedes (??), even though the DVLA database has it as a TVR!

Something's up somewhere.

Yeah, that salvage place with a name change.. Trying to get into different markets without the stigma of his old name perhaps.

That has been for sale for aaaaaaages. Like 2yrs maybe.. So obviously there is issues..

I hadn't realised that! May be why it's had a £5k reduction. The MoT pass, and the walkaround on youtube is dated Aug 2018:

Looks good in the sunshine! redface

Be very very careful here, If you are looking for a Cerbera buy from a good retailer or from an enthusiast it is way better value in the short, medium and long term.

Great advice for a first time buyer, but since Ian is both a Cerb owner and Chim owner I expect he should be able to spot any serious issues given a proper inspection

I don't intend buying another right now, but you were right in your assumption. Both the TVRs I have were purchased from attentive and dedicated private sellers. My first Chimaera ownership in 2001/02 was an eye opener.

Having had my Cerbera only 4 weeks, I'm still a bit paranoid about the values of them, but with winter on the way, there are some big reductions in the classifieds on Cerbera, and Chimaeras too. frown

I raised the thread to highlight the slightly bizarre fact that Autotrader recognise the reg number as a Mercedes! I often put potential purchases into a 'dummy run' sale on Autotrader because the details tell you if it has an insurance category or not. Of course, just because a car has had major body repairs doesn't always mean that it has an insurance write off category applied. But if it has, it hugely affects the value, no matter how good the repairs are, or aren't...…..
