I'm contemplating getting a new daily driver, I'm quite set on either a MK5 Golf GTI or a Seat Leon with the 2.0 TFSI engine.
I'm just curious as to the price difference between the Leon in FR spec and the Cupra version, is the Cupra really that much better? Seems you can get a nice looking FR for £3.5-4k while the Cupras are starting at £5k for a questionable car, right up past £10k!

It’s up 40bhp on the FR, with stronger engine internals and head. Bigger brakes, different suspension, different geometry, nicer seats and the interior is festooned with more black.

Or you could just get the FR, map it to 240bhp and be done with it. The engine could probably cope fine without much changed. Do a little research first.

Yes it does.

Leon FR has same engine as Golf GTI where as Cupra is same as Golf R/Edition 30.

The Cupra/Cupra R came with 240/265bhp.

Cheers folks, I didn't realise there was so much difference between engines, I suspected the turbo may have been upgraded but not much more than that.
I suspect for an everyday car, I'm better getting a nice FR rather than a ropey Cupra!

Very unlikely the turbo has been touched, the most common upgrade is to fit the Cupra turbo but even thats not that common on a FR.

Cupra hold their money well though. TBH though I found the Cupra 240 a bit dull, it shifted but didn't really make any interesting noises or seem to involve the driver much. For an everyday nippy car, I'd take a Golf GTi over a Leon FR, nicer inside and a bit more fun. In the end I bought none of those things as I wanted something a bit more wild, so ended up with a 5 pot ST which is a lot more entertaining but not as good as a daily compared with a Golf GTi imo.
