Hi,

Looking for a nice restaurant in Glasgow. I don't want to spend 4 hours over a 7 course tasting menu and I definitely don't want haggis. I would prefer to avoid anything generic like a Steakhouse, but I do want decent food and a decent wine list.

Any recommendations?

I had a lovely time in WEST. It was right up my street. Food not at all posh, but very nice indeed.

The Ubiquitous Chip or Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery would be my two recommendations.

Our second eldest worked there for 5 years.

Had a great birthday night, with a magically shrinking bill smile

Good for new years eve too, if you can get booked in, and gives access to Ashton lane too which is buzzing on the night.

Agree on both of these - Both lovely.

For a bit of old school try Roganos. Also Guy's Restaurant in Merchant City is very good.

I've heard good things about Partick Duck Club.

My missus cooks in Koko's Japanese Kitchen at Nice & Sleazys, it's perfect if you want to eat really good home style Japanese food in a dive bar smile.

..what do you want to eat? and where will you be? plans before or after?

Whilst it's not the biggest city in the world, there are various "centres" that you would want to base yourself in. You've had some pretty good recommendations so far though. I would add Cail Bruich to that, and Number 16.

Wee Lochan in Crow Road. Relaxed atmosphere, nice grub, not too dear.

Actually the Bread Meats Bread in the West End is a bit classier than the one in town. I don't know why I never thought of that earlier, BMB is my favourite place.

Its mandatory eating whenever i'm in town.

Grabbing a burger for the train home and making everyone else jealous is worth it!
