Saying that although we have so many scameras, deaths are not going down.

He is talking about needing pedestrian and driver education and more traffic police etc etc.

Also talking about buying better pedestrian friendly cars, and manufacturers making them more pedestrian friendly.

Does the fact that we have yellow box cameras for the fuc&**&ts that dont understand the rules explain anything?
Question would be could we export a sensible thing like the box junction to our French neighbours, with their "priorite a droit" malarkey

Think I am right in assuming a few things the percentage of road deaths per thousand cars has dropped over the last 60 years but the actual number of road deaths continues to rise a rate lower and traffic growth.

Instead of the green cross code adverts now and then on Tv we make every car on the roads but ugly with masive high bonnets of bouncy steel instead.

One of the nasty design aspects of road safety.

My comment to the GF whilst watching this feature was that myself and everyone I know could have had a spike on the front of their car and still not killed any pedestrians ever.
But for this 'safety' drive we get heavier cars with limited visibility.

Teach people to drive properly and not hit anything!

One of the problems is that there is no space on TV for public road safety awareness films anymore. Apart from the odd "anti-speeding" ad, there are hardly on the box anymore. They used to cover most areas of road awareness and safety and they were aimed at ALL road users, not just drivers.

"Always use the Green Cross Code, because I won't be there when you croos the road". Green Cross Code basically the same as Tufty, but on steroids.

My girls don't know any such mantras...

However, I agree with your actual point; i.e. the need to bring back the driver / pedestrian public information films that used to run in the ad breaks when I were a lad...

Well I do, my wife also, until we're blue in the face. But somehow a crudely animated squirrel or lycra-clad body-builder carry more authority with the young. Or did then. These days they'd probably have a "rapper" doing it to appeal to "the kids". Or "Crazy Frog".

I agree. You used to see the green cross code man on TV regularly. And when I was a boy, Tufty.

Also, when I was a school boy the police used to come in at least once a term and give a road safety lecture complete with demonstrations. I don't think they do that anymore.

The point I was really trying to make was that there were more public information films aimed at the ADULT TV audience.

It is really the adult road users who have the most respnsibility regarding road safety so reviving TV adverts aimed at them would be pretty productive.
Unfortunately, the TV moguls have made airtime so expensive, government bodies tasked with road safety can't afford the cost of slots.

No doubt you know that Dave Prowse learned all his lines dutifully, but Lucas couldn't cope with Vader speaking in a Bristolian accent. Personally, I think it would have been rather cool.
