So i'm male, 27, 5 years NCB, 0 points, living in LS12.

Best insurance quote:

M3/M4 F80: £2,500
M5 F10: £2,300

My modified Audi S5 costs £1k.

What the ****?!

I really want an M frown

The risk profile on a M-car (theft and accident) is likely to be massively higher than those recorded by insurers for the S5. Plus, rightly or wrongly, it'll be considered in a whole different league of performance.

For comparison - although i'm not in Leeds - having just switched from a 987.2 to an E92 M3, a lot of mainstream insurers wouldn't touch me.

I'm 45, 9 yrs NCB on my daily driver and use the (garaged) Beemer as a weekend car on limited miles.

Quotes for the BMW were approx 30% higher than for a C63 of the same vintage.

Wow that's crazy,

may be a stupid question have you tried some of the mainstream insurers.

Im 32 8 years NCB 0 points, when I got the F10 M5 earlier in the year I was struggling with quotes around 1600-1800.

Went with admiral multicar and got it for £670 and they even gave me 7 years free NCB (essentially duplicated from the other car on the policy).

Otherwise might be all postcode as a brief look suggests LS12 is a high risk area

I'm in LS19 and was paying about £1k for an F80 M3 Comp Pack. I'm 40, 1 yr no claims. No convictions. 1 fault accident claim.

I say 'was', as it was nicked from the back of my house last Thursday...

Not to point out the obvious, but you are right next to that hovel which is Holbeck, or has it improved since I left?

I wouldnt be surprised if the lovely folks next door were not doing the usual driving round the other areas looking for st to rob as there is nothing in their own neighbourhood, thats why we got done in Chapel Allerton area.

Heh.. well LS12 is Armley, so it's in the same ballpark as Holbeck. But i actually live in a brand new estate and everyone else here has range rovers, bmws etc. The insurer's dont give a st though.

Personally i think thieves tend to target more affluent areas anyway.

Of course they do. All the nice new fast cars are not usually sitting on council estates.

Quite.

Sorry OP but I'd say you've ended up in a prime thiefing spot for cars like the ones you mention, hence why your insurance is so high.

Not a BMW, but I was very surprised that my insurance dropped by 20% when I moved to BD19 from a leafy part of LS16 not far from Golden Acre. I was talking to my landlord a few days ago who lives in LS16 Bramhope and he said it has been a nightmare up there as hardly a night goes by without people having their cars nicked off their driveways or houses/garages burgled eek. If that anecdotal evidence is any indication, then I guess moving to a less salubrious area where crime is not as rife wobble would explain the drop in premium. It's "OK" here in BD19, but I wouldn't want to live here permanently.

I’m in LS17 and pay £480 on my E92 M3 and had similar quotes recently on an M4 and i8.

37, 9+ NCB, no points or accidents.

I always use a broker and avoid the mainstream insurers. Try Aplan, Classicline, and Adrian Flux.

Insurance is just a minefield.

I've always found the above "brokers" above to be useless, never getting anywhere near the mainstream insurers like direct line etc.

DL did my mapped M6GC for £300 / year, then Hastings online did it for 285! Tried a few brokers all over 1k.

It's all about postcode.

When we left Manchester (chorlton M21) for rural Staffordshire my 335i insurance dropped by 75%.

OP, try checking out car clubs and seeing if they have a deal for members with a certain brokers.
When we had the Z4M they were 2/3 of the next best price just by being a member on the well known forum for Z4s

Caveat : we live somewhere the insurance companies feel is low risk - so the above may not apply wink
