Right....I've managed to install it from the depot but I can't get the sodding thing to run. I've run the post install script but I'm really having no luck and have no idea what I'm actually meant to be doing!

Could anyone help maybe with a step by step bunch of instructions....!?

Assuming its the same as on *nix said:


shell> groupadd mysql
shell> useradd -g mysql mysql
shell> cd /usr/local
shell> gunzip < /path/to/mysql-VERSION-OS.tar.gz | tar xvf -
shell> ln -s full-path-to-mysql-VERSION-OS mysql
shell> cd mysql
shell> scripts/mysql_install_db
shell> chown -R root .
shell> chown -R mysql data
shell> chgrp -R mysql .

/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin -u root password <password>
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h `hostname` password <password>

shell> bin/mysqld_safe --user=mysql &

No good! I just get the same error again!

HP-UX Box said:
# bin/mysqld_safe --user=mysql &
[1] 7284
# Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /usr/local/mysql/data

have a look for a hostname.err file (where hostname is the name you gave during the password setting stage)

The error may well be listed in there.
