Is AI and machine learning where it’s at?

I’m wondering if it won’t be long before familiarity with things like AI and machine learning will become indispensable knowledge for many jobs.

If so, what are your thoughts on getting up to speed? Training? Courses? Books?

It's in the early stages of the hype curve.

I'd suggest getting a good grounding in statistics and probability first. Otherwise you'll be missing the key foundations. If you don't find statistics and probability interesting ... then I don't think trying to "get into" machine learning is necessarily a good idea.
