I was driving past Stonehenge at 1545 this afternoon and there was a black jet flew over head, I was wondering if it was a fleet air arm Hawk. Did anyone see it or know what it was?

Most Hawks are black so it could be any RAF Hawk. I'm sure there is one at least based at Boscombe Down.

Thanks Eric, that’s what it must of been. I’ve only ever seen two hawks apart from the red arrows, they were fleet air arm flying for the Thursday war in Plymouth.

If not based there then they visit most days, I am under the approach path.

Near Stonehenge I'd say it was probably the QinetiQ Alpha Jet from Boscombe Down - https://www.airliners.net/photo/UK-Air-Force/Dassa...

The Alpha Jets were retired at the end of January this year - https://www.pressreader.com/uk/pilot/20180401/2824...

The Centre for Aviation Medicine (CAM) operate a couple of Hawks out of Boscombe Down - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Centre_of_Aviati...

I once said over the Storno at Marham

"Can you send the Land Rover over to the Andover, over."

But the Andover wasn't black. Or a jet.

RAF CAM (centre of aviation medicine) have two T1 Hawks so it was probably one of those. Qinetiq have also done a variety of T1 servicing jobs for the MoD in the last few years at boscombe down too,
