Hi everyone, need help identifying this. It was sat on the bonnet for half an hour, moved about 10cm as I drove into town and back.

Grasshopper? Anyone know the specific scientific name for it?

I'm in Reading, relatively built up urban surroundings with the exception of the university botanical garden. Looking at that guide it seems like the 'bush cricket'. Wonder what it's doing out here at this time of year? It seems to have a horn on it's tail that is reddish in colour. A very unusual looking thing.

Saddle backed bush cricket.
All insects are cold blooded, so he didn't move because he was bloody cold.
October is late to see them because of the temperature.

Edit to ad the "Horn" is the ovipositor so quite benign.
