Good afternoon

Not really needed to post in this area before of the forum before.

Recently I have developed very annoying heartburn. Heartburn isn't a thing thats ever bothered me in the past but the last few weeks has been pretty uncomfortable. Nothing had changed in my diet and I've been sleeping well with what seems very little stress. I've been taking good old Rennie which keeps it at bay for a while but it soon comes back.

Any advice would be great.

I'm male age 31.

Thanks

eybic

I recently developed it too although mine is more like acid reflux.

I find that Gaviscon liquid (pink bottle) works wonders, tastes vile but works well.

I get Heartburn very regularly.

Always keep some of the chewy Gaviscon tabs handy - they work pretty well.

When I got down into my 'ideal' weight range and drastically reduced my alcohol consumption, the Heartburn disappeared completely. So I know the cure!

I used to get it bad - gaviscon and the likes would take the edge of it for about 10 minutes, the docs tried me on Omeprazole - I just wanted to fight anything that moved.

Ranitidine is the only thing that works, and it works really well!

Ranitidine is much more effective than chalky antacids. Omeprazole works for me too.

You need to see your GP if it persists, which will probably result in a camera down the throat. All I will say on that is have the sedative.

Mine was a hiatus hernia. I still have it, but it stopped being a problem when I lost some weight.

Another vote for ranitidine. It does work well. But sometimes I also have to eat them calcium chalky things from the supermarket if its really bad. That's my fault though for drinking too much. You have my sympathy though as its awful.

THIS. I didn't. Awful experience!

Omeprazole will work, but be warned if you are a Warfarin user - its screws your INR.....

Ask me how I know....

Check your diet first, rich and spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, tea, citrus fruits can all trigger acid.
Plus going to bed full, as the acid can pushed back up due to pressure build up in your stomach.
I take Ompra... thingy too and works mostly as rennies and galvascon wouldn’t touch it.

Presumably you are on warfarin and then were prescribed omeprazole.

Me too. I had to drive myself home so declined it. Painless, but horrible.

I'm exactly the same as this, I need to lose some weight again.

Interesting thread. I'm on Omeprazole and Gaviscon which is working, if I also drink 4 pints of squash a day. Otherwise I get a horrible dry / sore throat when I wake up.
I have had the camera up the nose and down the throat without any sedative twice now. It certainly makes your eyes water ! I am back at the docs next week, although they have said the only option now is an operation to "clean" my throat out under a general anaesthetic, which I don't really fancy.

I had heartburn something terrible about 5 years ago. Went to a nutritionist who suggested mastic gum from herb shop. Took it for a few weeks and it worked a treat, and if the heartburn occasionally returns (maybe 18 mths after last use), a couple of days of mastic gum knocks it on the head.

I had this, doc gave me omeprazole. Then I decided I didn't want to be taking some drug for the rest of my days so I stopped eating my trigger food which is bread and stopped taking omeprazole the same day. It was hard, cos I love bread but my heartburn/acid had pretty much gone away, and I lost a bit of weight too..
Any sign of it and a Rennie controls it easily..

I'm getting the sore throat but I've never had heartburn, and taking a PPI (Lansoprazole) hasn't made any difference. Apparently PPIs are very effective so if they don't work then the issue isn't acid.

Camera (I had the sedative - amazing!) found a small hiatus hernia, but also that I had a helicobacter pylori infection, now treated.

Quack thinks my throat is being irritated by bile (which is very alkaline). I had a stomach manometry and 24 hr ph monitor last weekend and am going for the results on Monday.

Just to say snap, bread was a big cause of mine, however if I make my own bread or buy proper home made bread (good luck finding it) it does not affect me at all. I recommend the lidl breadmaker.

Apples were another trigger, and loosing a bit of weight has helped me as well.

Alcohol, and bread, seem to be common causes, plus, of course, if you're overweight.
