Questions about buying a van that _was_ intended for export?

So I'm interested in buying a van I've seen on eBay.

For some reason these vans seem to be all over eBay with "ideal for export!" in the title or description. I don't get it.

Anyway I'm looking to buy a van which has a current MOT and a good MOT history (checked on Gov website).

The seller says he was going to export it but changed his mind because he wasn't able to get the price he wanted for it by exporting it.

I figure maybe there was more work/paperwork and/or hassle involved than he bargained on?

Anyway he says he doesn't "have the logbook in my name, I only have the green slip and the MOT certificate".

Any ideas if a) this sounds like something which shouldn't be touched with a barge pole and if it ISN'T, is the "green slip" likely to be the detachable part of the V5C, which, if filled incorrectly and sent off to DVLA would result in a nice new V5C in MY name turning up through the post a few days later?

Whilst not wanting to disparage legal, honest exporters, the fact remains that 3rd and 2nd world countries aren't as fussy with their transport as we are.
Therefore, stolen, cut and shut, rusty, knackered, dead vehicles can be sold on without comeback.
I'm not saying your find is no good - but be careful.
You don't need a V5 - all done on line now. So it could be sold twice or three times!!!

Being advertised as ideal for export would flag up to be that it's sub standard - but go and look.

Thanks, Mike, that's worth thinking about. I've looked at the MOT history of the vehicle (reg SP05 UHV) and it's got a string of 'PASS' and it has current MOT so I'm hopeful it is a find. But I appreciate and have taken on board your words of warning. They are appreciated.
