A Bit lucky and a Lesson Learnt
Discussion
Took my Chim into Mat Smiths for a service and MOT last week.
MOT was at 10.30 and the car was taken across the road for the local MOT station where it passed OK. The feed back that I got was that whilst the car was being MOTed flames started coming from the engine bay.
It turned out that I had left a micro fibre cloth inside the engine bay when I had cleaned it the week before. This had slipped onto the now extremely hot exhaust manifold without anyone noticing. Luckily no damage was caused but it could have .
So probably good fortune that it happened when it did and not when I was driving with the bonnet closed

Any rag/tissue tucked in the engine bay of any car is a big NO-NO, but a very common find; I am forever removing them and 'educating' people to the risk.
I have heard that evidence of such is enough to be refused insurance payout in the event of a fire claim, on grounds of contributory negligence.

Have you considered fitting a smoke detector? Not this one as it's 24 volt, this is an example link https://firedect.de/smoke-detectors/
