It’s about this time of year my better organised family members start asking me what I want for Xmas. I’m never sure tbh. I like cars (no kidding) but am not into mugs/ties/socks with a picture of a car on them, etc.

Any ideas? What are you asking for?

Anything I ever actually want is too expensive to ask people for. I generally tell people not to bother, as some random tat that will simply take up space in a cupboard/drawer is simply a waste of time and money.

I normally ask for detailing products.
Snow foam lance.
Polishes or wax.
Maybe a rotary polisher.

New jack.

New jet wash.

Yup, it may be a tad dull but I find it so much easier to do this.

I normally just ask for food and drink. Beers, hamper, cheese, chocolate, whatever...

Pretty much this!

If they INSIST they must get me "something"I set a maximum price of £50 to stop people getting silly!

Experiences you wouldn’t otherwise normally treat yourself too or something you just fancy trying, whatever floats your boat e.g. gig tickets, something hobby related, random activity etc. So much better than accumulating more tat.

Easiest for me is whisky or cognac.

Not that I drink either much anymore, but it gives people direction & is more helpful (I find) than 'nothing thanks' - which is what I'd be happy with.

Set yourself up an Amazon Christmas wish list. There must be loads of bits and bobs you’d like at various price points.

Once done email them a link. If they choose to buy something it disappears off your list.

Some great suggestions here. I’m particularly taken with the alcohol and food line, as that would actually be rather welcome, and as you say, easier than saying ‘nothing’.

I also thought of getting people to donate to an account at www.kiva.org where you can allocate money to individual people with a need, but suspect my lot would rather give a thing.

If there is something that you want but is expensive ask several of the family to help pay for it or give you gift vouchers so you can buy it.
As said theres no point in having tat in the drawer
