If you're doing the job yourself it would be better for you to choose your own best earth points, a very good earth point for the engine is at a starter motor mounting bolt if you can reach one

Thanks for that - yes I will be doing myself.

So earth from starter to chassis?

would you replace the existing earth from the front of the engine to chassis - or keep the existing and add this?

You could not do a better job than battery negative to starter motor using the correct or above size cable and if possible run a seperate cable from battery to chassis, if it's not possible to run from battery to chassis because the cables won't all fit on the battery terminal you should consider replacing the terminal with one that will accept the required cables. If you don't wish to replace the battery terminal you can loop from the starter motor to the chassis

Clean the original engine to chassis cable terminals and mounting points up and leave it in place

Be sure to clean any paint off the starter mounting bolt area where your earth terminal is being bolted down and use a real good bolt, get the bolt real tight and use nylocks if nut and bolts are fitted at any points

I replaced my battery earth cable with 40mm the same as I used for the positive cable.

I made up one cable from battery to normal earth point on the chassis adjacent to the steering column upper u/j and then a further cable from there on to one of the starter motor fixing bolts.

Sorry, but not sure of thread diameter of the chassis fixing.

Many thanks both - much appreciated!

I got the car as a project (basically a big bag of bits) so I dont have a visual reference. Between this forum and google im getting my head around what needs doing and where it all goes - the good thing being it gives me a blank canvass to get the electrics done well - as it all needs putting in anyway.

Pictures are great thanks!

Anywhere that sells the cable with the terminals already crimped on if I give them the spec?

Also, regarding live to starter - where is best to route this as it comes out of the bulk head?

From battery neg post to engine block direct via inner wheel arch is a piece of piss and leaves the chassis to ground/earth much less needy electrics , why add a further link (chassis) leaving the original neg to chassis ground (above trans tunnel) in place of course
