Hi All,

Anyone playing FM 2019? It's my go to train game on laptop at the moment.

My first PC based FM game vs handheld normally. An awful lot more to learn which is hard.

Decided initially to start with my team, West Ham, and struggled with the game dynamics/how it worked so then played with Man City for a few games to understand tactics / changes etc to actually see changes throughout the game.

So, I have now embarked upon my FM challenge - to resurrect Leeds to the Premier league and hopefully Champions League.

I am first in the table by 3 points and in truth, am struggling to understand the transfer / loan system offered by this game. On top of that, Leed's transfer budget is £1.5m and the player I bought couldnt get a work permit - d'oh!

Anyway, I think the transfers and youth development will be key for me and I have no idea how to do either - I feel the transfers should be so much easier to understand than it is and I cant really see how my youth players are being developed (I have potential 5 starrers playing in my first team to get experience and are getting 10.00 reviews from training but the actual rating isnt increasing for some reason.)

Anyway, how are you all getting on?

I was not aware it was even out.

I have spent many hours/days/weeks in the past on the Champ/Football manager franchise. I could lose a whole weekend when I had no family commitments years ago, but FM18 just turned into an over complicated mess. I doubt I even spent 10 hours on it. I could see the change for the worse in FM17 but 18 just took it to another level.

I will have a look at the reviews and hopefully like it again.

Head over to https://www.fmscout.com/ loads of useful tips on there. Most of the guys also have twitter and are fairly responsive.

I've just started my long save with Woking. Lots of free transfers and going well so far.

Yep, with you on that. In the late 90s/early 2000s I wasted god knows how long taking teams like Chester or Leyton Orient from the conference to European Champions, but then life got in the way and I stopped playing.

More recently (sort of) I gave FM13/14(?) a go, and although it had all the extra functionality and depth I wished the early CM games had, I couldn't get into it (see over complicated mess comment above). Plus the PC I had at the time couldn't really cope.

Might have to give it another go (I see there's a free demo version) but change my approach and take out the micro-management (to start with at least).

You get half a season in the demo, so it's a decent period to test it out, save carries over if you buy the full game as well.

My Leeds team is getting absolutley whipped in the Prem...

Ridiculous.

Championship to Prem is definitely the biggest step. You can easily get a double/triple promotion in LLM once you get things right, but consolidation in the Prem is tough, especially if you're starting from the bottom!

You'll be pleased to know they stuffed me 5-0 and somehow have managed to sign higuain.

Anyway, I now have 8 points and am out of relegation zone.

My mistake was probably buying loads and loads of talented youngsters hoping they'd develop quick. Long story short, mixing them with older more experienced players has seen me go on a run of 6 undefeated and the youth is now of a "premier league standard" so the ship is slowly steadying!!

"You'll never win anything with kids!" or something like that.

If you're planning a long save then it's good to bring in youth early and watch them develop (or not as often is the case). Short term there are some decent free signings from the start that will help you out. Nasri, Berbatov, Huth, Ndong etc. There are also some absolute bargains. If you need a GK Predrag Rajkovic, available for around £4m and will go on to be world class, Pelayo Morilla, another steal, got him for around £2m in my beta save

Not sure if anybody can help me here,

looking to get FM19 but first i need a laptop, fine with refurbished.

Have been looking at just a standard 8gb ram, with a small SSD. From the specs it says processor needs to be 2.2ghz.

From what i can see on refurbished laptops i can only really get i5 processor with 1.9ghz.

Will this still run the program ok and relatively fast? I'm just not sure how much of a difference it will make if it has 8gb ddr3 and a SSD

Cheers,
