Hi looking for some advise.

I have had a knocking sound for some time now and its really frustrating.
I noticed some play when pulling wheel back and forth.

Have checked ball joint and its sound, replaced front suspension mount as was cracked but the noise still there.

I just took the wheel off to find I can replicate the noise if I push and pull the driveshaft rod.

Should there be any play in this rod?

Many thanks

The wheel bearing should be a ball type bearing which is not adjustable. When worn they can rumble & damage to the race can cause a clicking noise.
Jack up the wheel & with a grip of the wheel at 12 & 6 o'clock try & rock the wheel. If there is play - even a tiny amount is too much - then get someone to press on the brake pedal. If the play disappears the wheel bearing is worn, it it doesn't then you have wear in a suspension component.

Clicking can also indicate a worn CV joint which you have on the driveshafts & it's simpler to fit a reconditioned/new shaft than mess about fitting new joints to the existing shaft.
