Would love to hear suggestions for a car that provides decent involvment at reasonable speed (just had my licence suspended in Germany for 30 days) whils sounding great.
Manual is a must as are 4 seats.

Being PH, I guess slow is anything less than 5 seconds to 60 and doesn’t do 150mph?
What about a V6 Alfa 156 or Alfa GT?

If you can stretch to 16k a Ford Sierra XR8
Definitely fun to drive and 5-litre Yank motor burble

“Slow” is very subjective.

I would say you need to go 70’s or earlier to stand a chance against speed limits. A modern diesel fiesta will cruise in a fairly unstressed manner at 160 km/h for example.

So good sounding, fun, old car? Not got a clue really!

How helpful!

How about rover 216 or Honda crx/civic with a d16 lump, 7000 rpm and sound great for what they are.

115-130bhp so not hugely quick.

It needs to produce drama sooner than the speed limit basically.
Old ( late 70’s early 80’s)TransAm look and sound the part, and are hillariously slow. Something along these lines but maybe a bit of handling.
Busso Alfas are a great shout.

Very much what he said above

Even a 3 litre Capri will get you a speeding ticket pretty easily but will be slow as poop to everyone on here who commute in 335ds, GT2s and the like....

True! Like I said it needs to give a bit of a "feel" and drama of going fast before reaching astronomical speeds. So sound is a factor, a good manual box with the proper ratios.

Old "Z" Datsuns?

The Brera is a good shout but not available on the continent as far as I know. The Alfa GT is also nice, I might have a closer look at it. However they may be too fast.

Smaller category like Golf 2 GTI? Or Mazda MX3 V6? Hyundai coupe V6? Peugeot 406 coupe?

Alfa 75 V6 then - space for 4, sound great.

Or if you want more space than a Capri, XR4i - V6 - Sierra seating

Busso Alfa's are slow? Really?

0-60 in 5.5 seconds (with an uprated diff, otherwise 6.5 and a lot of wheel spin), over 150mph top speed and will thunder past 100mph without much provocation is slow?

Wow, I really must re-evaluate my cars then. I suppose a v12 Lambo is "A bit nippy" then, A Tesla "Brisk" and Chiron "Quick enough".

Try a Giulia Quadrafoglio. They are a bit nippy with a 0-60 of only 3.9 seconds and will only do 190mph but it is not licence losing fast. Don't bother with the AMG mercs or M3/M4 BMW's. They are so slow they would bore the tits off you.

Serious answer. Have a look at the Abarth 595. 165 bhp in a supermini, it is hilariously entertaining at any speed. your licence still isn't safe though, I have the "pathetic" 145bhp version and in sport mode with 2 passengers and a full load it can still get from 40mph to 90mph in an overtake surprisingly fast. It might be a bit small for your needs though.

Slow, entertaining, inspiring noise & worth owning...for me, it would have to be old.

Austin Healey 3000

Triumph GT6

Scimitar (slower than a Capri & still cheap)

50s Yank V8

Honda S800 (screaming 4 cylinder)

70s XJ6

...or forget the noise and buy a standard MX5 or MK3 MR2 - reliable fun without much speed.

No they're not slow but they have the ability to feel good at slow speed therefore meeting the OP's brief & hopefully helping him keep his speed down & speeding tickets at bay.

I had a Granturismo while fast it still felt special at 30mph whereas the M3 I had didn't feel good until I was getting a move on.

By the way everything is slow when you have a fettled 1000cc sportsbike wink

Integra? 4 seats, good gearbox and engine, should hold it's value well too.

possibly not slow enough! they are good for 150mph lol...not really a car that encourages sedate driving.

What about an american v8? will sound epic, without going anywhere particularly quickly.

Depends if you wring it's neck all the time. I had a Civic Type R, with similar performance on paper, but a Mondeo TDi would leave it standing unless you really used the available revs. You need to make a conscious choice to go fast, perhaps unlike cars with more torque.

Now we're getting somewhere! Lots of Alfa suggestions….love it!
The old Jag XJ-C is of course an absolute dream option, just very difficult to source a proper one around these parts.
MG-B V8?
Old yank V8's are the obvious choice, its just that most of these cannot handle any turns, they are literally a joke.
An early 90's IROC-Z was a dream machine for me back in the day. Are there mods available to make them hold in a corner?

I generally do not like how 4 pot engines sound, but am open to suggestions (including the right aftermarket exhaust system).

Keep'em coming.
