A friend of mine owns a gym. He's been approached by a tv company to do some filming showing someone training in the gym.
He thinks 'great, some publicity'.
The tv guys then say that the person involved is a transexual and the program about someone training to change their body shape. For some reason, they don't want to film in the gym that the guy usually trains in.
My friend has no problems with transexuals but is wondering what effect this may have on his business if he agrees.
So, good idea or not? - and should he be paid a fee for using his gym as a location?

yes he should get paid! It will be a right hassle and they tend to need tons of equipment.
I let the BBC use my flat when I was at uni to film parts of a TV series in - they did 2 days filming IIRC and paid me about £4k! This included 'set-up' time either side of the filming.
I didn't know they paid out to film the life of grime series

Always wondered how they work.. is it like rubber inflatable arm bands that children have in the pool? Blow hard and when they are inflated.. stick the little plug in?
I believe so! Saw a program on it once. Not sure about the plug though - and I hope they aren't orange as that would be a dead give-away!

I can understand why people are saying don't film it, but I am not sure there is a downside. Your friend needs to find out how much they will pay for filming and then consider how many gym memberships that is worth!
My suspicion is that it will not affect membership one iota as people won't cancel their member ship because of it, and those that are thinking about joining a gym aren;t going to know which gym is on the programme.
When I worked in London some empty offices above us were used by ITV to film some of the Jeremy Beadle programmes, didn;t seem to affect us, or even stop motorcycle couriers coming to the building!

I can't think of a single reason not to allow filming. Since its the BBC, they will not advertise the gym - which means that only the locals will know where it is. There will be a very tiny percentage of people using the gym who might take umbrage, but tbh they're not worth worrying about.
Oh, and don't expect a big cheque - they'll be asking to film for free to begin with.
