One for PH as its bugging me…

I regularly see the same shape (F30’s) with twin and single exhausts? What's the different in spec? I don't believe they are X drive, as they usually sit a lot higher.

Think it is a face lift thing, newer ones have the smaller twin pipes (30\35\40i & Ds get larger diameter pipes I think)

Not sure there’s an easy answer wink
From what I’ve seen :-

Six cylinder petrols 335i , then at facelift (LCI) 340 had split tailpipes.

6 cylinder diesels had the two tail pipes together both pre and post facelift.

I’m sure that 4 cylinders , certainly the popular 320d had a single tail pipe pre LCI and two afterwards.

But I think to really confuse things , the more powerful 4 cylinder petrols (328 , latterly 330) always had two tail pipes together?

As for the remaining 4 cylinder models , 320i and anything thing lower (diesel or petrol) whether they changed to two tail pipes I dunno.

I guess if you’re really bugged you can go to BMW approved used site and look up examples.

LCI was circa 2015.

65 was in facelift year, of 2015, do you know the registration/s to get VIN to get build date?

It's always possible that one was built pre-facelift production and registered post facelift. I've seen many months between build date and reg' date on BMWs.

  • edit, to say a very quick look on autotrader, for 2015, found the mix of tailpipes on 65 plates. I didn't find the mix on 15 plate cars or the odd 64. wink

Seems LCI from August 2015, so definitely much closer to 65 plate 1 sept.

Isn't the twin pipe an option or spec thing on the 4pots?
