its the reason i sold mine.... total lack of drama...
perhaps I should have bothered with an exhaust but wiring open the exhaust flaps had negligible impact
oh - that's a shame - I use mine every day in central London so don't want too much drama - just to hear the damn thing!perhaps I should have bothered with an exhaust but wiring open the exhaust flaps had negligible impact

Underwhelmed by the noise or lack thereof on my new daily F10 M5, particularly when listening to some loud tunes.
What is a cheap fix - de-cat or similar without forking out for a whole new system?
Ideas welcome please.

No real way - it was built that way if you wanted noise E60 M5 was the way to go. What is a cheap fix - de-cat or similar without forking out for a whole new system?

To make changes on a boosted car even the best possible noise you’d get is muted by the very fact the exhaust gasses turn the turbine.
Enjoy it for what it is - maybe turn up the piped in V8 noise? Or trade it for an E63 which sounds incredible but crap (relatively) in the bends but good for skids
...you bought the wrong car imo - M5 isn't about shouting and showing off (relatively!)... buy an AMG!
just google / youtube F10 M5 noise and you'll see they can be plenty loud enough but as already stated the noise is a certain type of noise due to the turbos but this is hardly limited to the M5?
Problem is these systems are not cheap and you will probably end up sacrificing the cars cruising ability? Guess it depends on your personal priorities?
I personally think its perfect - its actually quite loud 'outside the car' in M sport at full chat but not so much 'in the car' and that's probably your issue?

Try coding it before doing anything else. Find someone with Bimmercode/Carly, go into the coding menu and select the Competition Package setting for the ASD to 'on'.
Swapping between the two makes quite a difference inside my car (although my car is a CP, so has a slightly different back box).
OTOH, you can turn the ASD off and it becomes almost silent inside, but that's not what you're aiming for!

The F10 M5 is quiet inside when you are driving a normal speeds, but there is plenty of noise when you are pushing on and the exhaust valves open.
Wiring open the valves gives increased noise at low revs, but that makes it very loud outside. I bought an 'exhaustmeister' instead which lets you open and close the valves with a remote control.
In practice I rarely use it as driving around slowly with a noisy exhaust does not do much for me. If I want to hear the car, I just floor it in Sport Plus and upshift with wide open throttle. Loud detonations!
It's actually quite interesting to look at the engineering that makes the car sound the way it does. It's a cross plane V8, but it sounds like a flat plane because the exhaust manifold has been designed to cross over and smooth out the V8 'woofle'. I think that is far more interesting that the 'engineered in' pops and crackles you get with an Audi RS.

Was there an F10 M5 clubsport ?
Or just
M5 550bjp
M5 competition pack 575bhp
M5 30Jarah 615bhp
But from my understanding all actually produced over 600bhp out of the box and all were 9 seconds or much less to 100mph

560 bhp standard, 575 bhp in Competition pack and 600 bhp in M5 30 Jahre.
You still haven’t bought one?

Not yet it’s a toss up between560 bhp standard, 575 bhp in Competition pack and 600 bhp in M5 30 Jahre.

C6 RS6 Avant v10
F10 M5(Competition ideally)
E63 Estate
X5 M - 7 seat option only in consideration.
I know it’s not really the point in this thread...real external noise....but If you already have an OBD2 plug-in there are engine sound apps on phones.
They are pretty naff. The revs are slightly mismatched due to Bluetooth lag and an auto box isn’t a great fit with the idea. The app itself is temperamental too.
But
I think the app was free and it’s funny having a Ferrari v12 blaring out of the stereo. For about 20 seconds anyway. It might work well in the M5 with the paddles. Probably M car heresy.
I can’t decide how I feel about the F10 kenwood mixer sound. I chose it over a Maserati granturismo that I was going to buy purely for the soundtrack. I’m starting to find the m5 power is inaccessible so maybe driving around slowly making nice noises would have been a better experience.
Not sure why BMW don’t just embrace fake sound fully and let us adjust it.
