Can anyone remind me of how much a full respray costs? I was tempted to get a new tamora, what with 3 year warranty, standard air con etc. but wiser heads than mine (i.e. the formidable Mrs. Nubbin ) suggested that it was a bit pointless forking out £15-18k plus p/ex on a new car, when I could get a few upgrades for a lot less, and even with an engine rebuild and third party warranty, the cost still doesn't run to that sort of money! So now I'm thinking,

1)Silverstone headlight conversion + stainless heat shield
2) Full respray in TVR racing purple
3) Armourfend

Suggestions please!

A proper respray is at least 12k isn't it? :innocent:

Nubbin, funny - I'm going through the same thinking at the moment.. have been considering my options. Was also thinking about a full new trim (get rid of this Bison !!) I was quoted just under £1k for full front respray and doors.. suspect full respray will be close to £2k. I also like the Silverstone light conversion.

I think a full respray would be around 2-2.5K, worth it as it makes the car look like new!
I was also thinking about having a re-trim Jasper, the Bison stuff, no matter how well you treat it, does seem to wear very easily, especially where the seatbelts chaff the seats!
I do like the modded light cluster, as it doesn't interfere with the original lines
Nibbin, what are your thoughts on Nitrons; do you think it's worth it on the already very compliant Tam?

£2k is about what I thought - I've already got Navy and Portland full leather interior which would look alright with purple, I think (but I'd like to go for cream/magnolia ).

As for Nitrons, Chris, I don't know if they're likely to be a significant improvement - the main problem with the Tamora is the lack of weight over the rear end, so they make the back end a bit soft to get decent grip - I'm not sure how Nitrons would improve such a fundamental dynamics problem, although I'm pretty sure they would feel better sorted. But, it's plastering over the cracks, so to speak.

I think my brake discs may be a bit warped, as I get wheel wobble +++ at 95-110mph, and it hasn't been improved by several wheel balancing episodes, so I think I'll get Joospeed to put some new, and larger discs on the front, to help with braking feel. (if I could find Jools' number - the contact details have gone missing on his website!!) JOOLS, where are you?!!

Fortunately, a patient of mine is an insurance repairer by trade, and does a fantastic job of paintwork, and has all the facilities you would expect - so I'll try to cut a deal on a respray, after the headlamp conversion!

Cheers Nubbin, (Nibbin!!! ), I too was thinking the Nitrons would be an expensive waste of time, I think I'm lucky in that my Tam holds the road and stays dead straight when flooring it.

I believe Joospeed is closing down as a service and repair business and Joolz is planning to reopen as a performance upgrade tuner type place (or something like that). Saw him mention that he had removed his contact details from the website.

That 3 year warranty certainly has got a few minds thinking. Was also considering my options, leather retrim, colour coded seat backs and headlight conversion, but specing up a new car is attractive. Was thinking of a red rose, pearl white, red roof, anthracite alloys, leather etc......

Can't decide??

Hilti.

Headlights - Yum!

Check this out - Ive had my car resprayed in the few hours since I first thought of it!! -

BTW - jasper - beautiful car you've got! Halcyon Atlantis was one of the first colours I considered when I specced my first Tam, but I went for Grigio Alloy instead. Yours looks superb!

Thanks Nubbin..the front will need some attention soon..so might as well get the headlight conversion done at the same time.

Chris, when you had your front resprayed - did you consider any paint protection (Armourfend etc)? I've read some good and bad reports..

For what it's worth, the respray cost obviously depends on the paint and the finish. We needed a front end nose respray on our Halcyon Midas Pearl Tamora a year and a half ago, and that cost around £1400 at the factory. Mind you, that colour is one of the most difficult to spray and match.....

I didn't consider paint protection because I am a bit wary of it, I have a little in my door sills and the corners are slightly clouded, so I think I'll just have a front 'touch up' every 18 months or so. I have noticed the slightly flaired front wheel arches likes to act as a scoop for everything on the road!!
(still havent had time to get my spiders sorted either!!! )

I had Armourfend on my first Tamora, and it was very good. There was virtually no stone chipping, but the plastic becomes stained with bug splatter and oil, some stones were big enough to damage the Armourfend itself, and some managed to damage the paint through the plastic!

My feeling is that it is probably best on mid-dark colours (to hide any staining), and/or get the front undercoated with the protective stuff that cushions the paint finish - the factory can do it, and I imagine most good respray places will be able to apply it as well.

I've changed my mind! Having seen Willyworm's car on the Tamora register, it's Rolex blue for me! Looks great, and would fit better with my navy/grey interior trim. Now, where's that bank manager....?
