Car repaired prior to delivery
Discussion
I questioned the dirty interior of my new lease car in both driver and rear footwells and also the mileage of 38 miles on delivery off transporter. Wasn't unduly concerned although the wife wasn't happy, but now the lease company have told me the car was damaged on delivery to transport and was taken and repaired at the dealer bodyshop! This was only announced after I left feedback about the dirty interior on their feedback questionnaire.
None too happy about this and have asked what the damage was and where? Should I be concerned/annoyed (I am), and does anyone have any experience or knowledge in these matters?

I work in the industry (OEM vehicle distribution IT) and repair prior to delivery is not uncommon.
Transport damage
Environmental contamination in storage
Vandalism
Bodywork damage when being moved within compounds
Manufacturing defects discovered in country
All day to day work for most OEM’s. Worst example I ever saw was “unsecured, fell off the top deck of a fully laden transporter”. £50k’s worth of shiny new metal doesn’t bounce very well it seems.
A bit shoddy that you should notice it though. The whole idea is that it is delivered to you as if it rolled off the production line yesterday.

It’s the lease company’s car, not yours. You and your wife didn’t notice the damage until you were told about it by the lease company so it’s not a problem?
Make sure you keep copies of the communications from the lease company about the repaired damage so they don’t pin it on you at the end of term.

Having said that, how come you get unregistered cars in salvage yards that, in some cases, seem to have little more than minor scratches?PurpleTurtle said:

I can confirm this - some years back, I was collecting my car from a BMW bodyshop after I'd had a small bump. The lad I was dealing with showed me an M3 CSL that had somehow rolled off the ramps (at a different dealer) while it was having its PDI doneGassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
