Is this possible with a direct link from the laptop to the TV ie through the scart from the monitor output or will I need new hardware?
Thanks for any suggestions

Does your laptop have either S-Video out(yellow audio type plug), or a composite out(mouse type plug, that isnt the mouse hole)?

If not, then you need new hardware, or a new laptop. Go to PCWorld, and look at the USB 2 things(if your laptop does not have USB 2, get a new laptop). When you see one you like, come home and buy it on the net...

Yes it is possible with S Video out and Scart lead with an adaptor comprising S Video/Left Audio/Right Audio. Most laptops should be able to do this.

You can as explained above, but i'm sure it would be easier to buy a cheap DVD player (you can get them for £20 now) and connect that.

The RGB from your laptop will probably be a bit aggressive for most televisions.

Another approach is to use a scan converter.

They aren't expensive, and can be used to show pictures, and presentations, as well as the video, and will usually deal with different televisioon systems.

As mentioned above, most laptops have a TV out, just plug that up to the SCART input of the TV, along with the audios. Couldn't be simpler. Just don't forget to turn on the "TV out" on the laptop else it'll be black!
