Help guys
Some absolute moron crashed into my Cayman Gen 2 whilst parked outside by house in north London and drove off without leaving their details. The damage is around the left wheel and Axel (the wheels weren’t straight when it hit and it’s smashed the wheel back inside.
The insurers got a quote from M&A coachworks in north London but it came in too high relatively to the market value they work from. I can get a second quote (at my cost) but where do I look? Can anyone recommend a good place to do repairs. As otherwise the insurers are going to write it off 😭
Also - if I get it repaired on the insurance will it be logged with DVLA as Cat S or something and hammer the value?

I’ve used these guys a couple of times and found the work really good quality.

Depends where you are in North London obviously. Last time I was in there they had a Muira chassis on a rotisserie...one of the foremost experts in classic Lambo’s is in one of the neighbouring units and has recommended them to a client, says a lot to me.

M&A will be expensive ad they’re Porsche approved.

Try getting an OPC quote too. There are plenty of independents that will do outstanding work, but my experience of M&A was that they quoted more than twice what 2 different OPCs quoted for very basic work.

A few Porsche indys like RSJ, 911V use these guys for all their work. http://www.autobodytechnic.com A job a friend was recently quoted £1600 from main dealers was completed for £550. Ask for Bob who runs and owns ABT.

They've done a reasonably good job on a full respray on a 997 for me too. I've used M&A too and they're excellent.

I'm in NW3 and use PorcheTech just off the Finchley Road (020 7794 9393 and speak to Steven Santos or Andy Summers). They are, by a long chalk, the best Porsche independents in terms of knowledge, attention and helpfulness I've ever dealt with and reasonably priced, too.

Not all OPC’s have their own body shops...quite a few contract out to Porsche approved body shops.

Don't think anyone has answered this part of the question yet?

Does make it sound as though the damage was reasonably extensive if the insurance company think its above their limit for economical repair.

If they do write it off, don't just take their first offer for the value. Find a car in the classifieds of a similar mileage and spec to your car immediately before the accident, and tell them that you don't want their offer, you want them to buy you this car. They either will, or more likely you will get an improved cash offer.

cosmetic write off will knock 30% off the value, either demand this payout to form a separate remuneration as part of the repair works, or agree it is a write off, agree the value, get the pay out, and buy it back off them for scrap. They usually aren't keen on this idea but advising them it's your car which has sentimental value and you want to keep it as an emotional symbol to days past will work. Then buy a replacement with the pay out, and repair yours..

I think next to none do, but as you say the repairers are approved. Of the two that quoted for me one did have a body shop and one didn’t.
