Just Bought a 2010 Audi S3
Discussion
I have have just purchased a 2010 Audi S3, 3 door, manual...
Being a car community I thought this would be a good place to start a topic as all I read on most of the Pistonheads chats is how stupid you are if you would ever buy a used car because it's a great money saving on a new one... it's going to break down, it will cost you a fortune because its not as fuel efficient... bla bla bla... so here is my update, i'll try and keep it up to date. any questions feel free to ask.
Purchased for £10,500, first registered in October 2010 and has 72,000 miles with a full service history.
Week one:
Booked in for a service and cambelt change as i couldn't find a log of the cambelt being changed in the past, service was only 3k miles ago but i just wanted peace of mind. turns out that the cambelt had been changed and the mechanic said probably it wasn't a stock belt so probably changed at 5 years as the intervals are 75k or 5 years... so ended up just having a service and we will change the cambelt late next year.
week two:
Notice a lot of wheelspin in first and second gear... after a lot of google i self diagnose as a Haldex pump issue and order a new pump for £160 spend about 2 hours and a lot of swearing and change the pump and replace the oil myself, hey ho its fixed and wow does it feel like a new car, no wheelspin what so ever from any gear wet or dry! beginning to think this is the best car ive owned. (Cost to date 10,500 + 200)
Any questions you want me to find out or experiments you want me to try and do just let me know and i can post updates.
Cheers,
Rob

I’d get the cambelt changed ASAP unless there is a sticker or invoice to cover it. You can’t really tell if one has been changed or not by just looking at the belt. I certainly wouldn’t be trying to guess when it was done!
Fair comment, the mechanic said that it was a Dayco belt and that isnt stock so must have been changed. to be honest like you said i'll probably get them to change that and the water pump at some point before Christmas so peace of mind. Nice!
I've owned a 2005 3.2 V6 A3 for just over a year and things like DIY replacing the haldex pump and/or controller upgrade is the sort of thing I keep in mind in case it displays any odd behaviour. I think now I've had this car, the S3 as a successor when the time comes is almost a certainty!
