So after driving around in an Audi diesel for two years I thought I would jump into something with a bit more poke. Maybe not the best time of year to buy my first rwd car with a decent amount of power but I have loved it so far.

I have been hankering after an e46 M3 for years and decided that this would be a good compromise as I could use it daily and not need a run around for the day to day duties. Its by far the fastest car I have owned and really pulls through the gears like nothing I have experienced.

Collection day - I kept options to a minimum and got mineral grey with black interior, harman kardon, heated seats,ZF 8 Speed and parking sensors. Keen to keep it under the 40k spec limit for tax ( I got quite a big discount but they don't consider that in the tax bracket )

Had a great experience with Worthing BMW who I actually used instead of my local dealer. They managed to get me the car just before a trip to Scotland, I picked up the car up at 6 in the evening and then drove to Scotland immediately the next morning, stopping off in the lake district for a night. Car was effortless on the motorway and I ran it in on the way up.

Once I got it up to Scotland I went on a couple spirited drives with my cousin as he took me on some highland scenic roads. The car picks up speed at an alarming rate and makes a great noise. Hoping to take it to the evo triangle next year, have also bought some bmw black grills but debating whether or not to put them on the car.

I had an Audi A3 before, people seem to say that Audi interiors are better but I would disagree, the quality feels much better in the bmw.

Out of the options at this price bracket I am really pleased with my decision. Cant imagine needing anything more anytime soon.

Jack

Great cars and my 1er is now a year and a half old and I still haven't found anything I'd want to replace it with. My only real investment for it was a set of winter tyres so that it easily coped with the ice and snow of last winter - the standard fit Michelins are not brilliant in anything but sunny dry weather.

I can't imagine wanting anything more, I considered an lightly used m2 but this blends in so much better and is about as fast in a straight line.

Lovely car OP. thumbup

I don't think black grilles would look too good with your colour, but if you've already bought them surely it would be rude not to try them? laugh

I really do like the 240 BMW.

I noticed a coleague's 240 in the car park yesterday... local plates are 2 alpha digits and 4 numerics, so he has "MY 0240" on his. thumbup

Very nice motor, one of the most appealing current models around to me given the bang per buck. Interesting to compare it to an e46 M3, I guess this is actually quicker, similar power and weight but with it being turbo you get that shove in the back at lower rev's...

Welcome to the Mx40i club!

Lovely car- I'd highly recommend the M Performance rear spoiler as I think it finished up the rear end a treat.

Lovely car OP. In a good colour too.

What a terrific way to run the car in also

My wife has a mineral grey 240i cabriolet and I have a black 140i, we are big fans of both

Thanks for the replies. Looking forward to taking it on some more trips when the weather is a bit less damp..

When I was waiting for the car on order I bought some black grilles and mineral grey mirror caps ( as wasn't keen on the silver ones ). Haven't put them on yet and unsure if I actually will, both are growing on me as standard.

Got the grey bmw wing mirror caps and black grills on the car as eventually wasn't keen on the chrome.

Absolutely loving the car, done a trip to Scotland and two trips to the west country in it. Want to do the North Coast 500 and wales this year.

Looks good - prefer it with the black grilles, but then again I hate chrome on cars.

The B58 is a stonking engine isn't it? I was very surprised when I had an M140 on an extended test drive last summer.

I collect my M140 in a few weeks - starting to get excited now!
