A skoda Octavia 2.0 FSI Hatch petrol could be one on the list to suggest, big boot for the dog & proven VW engineering.

Beaten to it!

I bought a BMW E91 325i Touring in that budget earlier this year - but it had done 132K, albeit with full main agent SH. But I prefer RWD, although I realise most people aren't bothered!

Mondeo or Mazda 6 hatches ought to fit the bill too.

At that money I guess reliability will be important. 8th Gen Accord Estate is a good car for the money. The previous 7th Gen estate looks a bit odd though.

If the criteria is just 1. a car, 2. that's fairly big, 3. that will work, then at that price I'd be looking at a Toyota Avensis or Honda Accord, maybe a Focus or Mondeo depending on size requirements.

Edit: like this:

Full Toyota service history and 60k miles; it'll be slower than granite but last just as long.
