Can you get a leggy R53 Cooper S for 2k?
You can get one that's not leggy for less. I bought one with 87k miles for £1500 recently. They are a bit hit or miss though and lots seem to have running issues. When they are running they are great fun though. Be a good B road/track car to run alongside and M5

Thanks Guys. I'd love a Mini, but it may be a little too small sadly.
From the drivers perspective it feels less cramped than my 1 series did. The boot is useless and the back seats are for children or dogs only. However, with the back seats folded down it's a useable little van. Can easily get a 55" TV in... or a washing machine.... or a bike with the front wheel off.nunpuncher said:

You know, does it matter if it is turbo or supercharged? I need it until March, I should probably buy the cheapest most reliable car I can that meets the boot size criteria really....
There are a bunch of non turbo/non sc cars i guess. How big do you need the boot? e46 330ci? Decent steer and you'd find one in your 2k budget and would tick the reliability stake for a short period. Plus, you'd likely get your money back on one.

I've seen volvo s60's for the £1500 to £2000 mark - reliable work horses and can even stretch to a leggy t5 model if you don't mind high miles. But i've not had issue with high miler volvos - even the turbos before.

Another one maybe being a Suzuki Swift Sport -

If you wanted to scratch the supercharged itch how about a mercedes - C Class sport coupe -

Decent size, decent enough drive. For a short term stop gap should be reliable enough and again you shouldn't lose money on one.
All have fairly decent boot sizes for their class. Depends what you need. But thought a few for thought.
