one- upmanship
Discussion
Tell us your funny stories of one- upmanship
Mine , Persuading the wife she didn't need a new kitchen extension paid for by money she inherited from an old relative ...and as a petrol head ,,,it would be better spent on hooning about in an Aston DBS V12 .
Set the scene .....leave a few car mags with Astons on the table
Book a nice weekend away ...in a hired DB9
Finally pick up the DBS ........then do a " Clarkson" ...in the wet and convince her ...it would be better for me to drive it

True, but it can be quite amusing, especially as in this case, I didn't start it.This one provided some entertainment for a few colleagues near me at work around 12 years ago.
We had a new head of IT, and as he came up to my desk, he noticed a picture of a Noble M400 I had pinned up.
He said, "that's a nice car, but I've got a picture of a Bugatti Veyron with my son next to it on my desk".
I just responded with, "Yes, they're very nice, but this is a picture of my car" (which I'd very recently bought).
Although he's long since moved on, we still keep in touch as he was/is a decent bloke, fortunately with a good sense of humour.

I’ve always found employees with pictures of their cars on their desks to be the biggest children.

I got talking to a bloke at a party who was like that. Every topic we got on to he'd done better.
I can only remember a couple of things but he'd done more racing and when I mentioned I'd met the mutual friend we had through climbing, he'd climbed Mont Blanc. (It turned out he hadn't, he'd done some training.)
What really annoyed me was finding myself trying to compete but luckily I managed a killer blow. We got on to travel, and I said something along the lines of "Of course, when we drove to Cape Town" and he just turned round and walked off.
