Apaches have been flying at low level over Doncaster the last few days. 3 of them around 5pm on Thursday, 2 around lunchtime yesterday & a couple today. Any insight as to their motives? Excercises?

Here’s a photo my mate got this morning, good job his tv aerial isn’t on an extension pole !

Unless the UK is under attack, almost every military aircraft you see in UK skies is either on a training sortie, in transit, or on a flight test. There’s nothing mysterious going on.

On a similar theme is there a reason RAF aircraft seem to overnight at Doncaster Sheffield Airport (Finningley). The Sentinel and Shadow seem to visit quite often.

Saw the helicopters flying north this morning and another two going south about half an hour ago.

There was also a big 4 engine bomber style plane going north.

C-130 or A400M I’d imagine.

For Chernobyl they have been using egg borough power station. Which is as the bottom of our kids village.

He’s got some cracking pics and video of the stunts (inc helles going low and fast between the cooling towers).

3x Wildcats
2x Apaches
1x Chinook

Over our house at 1.500 ft heading for North Pennines then descended below 400ft and went off map west of Derwent Reservoir near Castleside, Consett.

Slightly related to this thread, so rather than starting another:

Any explanation on helicopter movement in Central Scotland this evening? That's 3 pairs have flown over around 15 minutes apart, flying south, around 15 miles east of Glasgow.

Too dark to make out what type(s) they are...

As above, routine training, test or transit flights. Loads of military aircraft movement happen every day (well, mostly Monday to Friday!)
There is an exercise of some sort on at Leeming, several types arrived over past couple of days.

If anyone is a little interested and is on Twitter, search #ironpython18

That’s the exercise they’re on.
