I have a 2011 1.2 vauxhall corsa (front wheel drive) which had to go to the manufacturer for a handbrake fix (something common in some models, so was done free)

They performed a full inspection and came back with a very long list of things needing doing.

Anyway, one was the driveshaft seals.
I've also took it to another garage who do free safety inspections and they too mentioned it.

I'm told the offside inner driveshaft and nearside inner driveshaft seals are leaking and need replacing along with the boots.
I will also attach a couple of photos (sorry about the quality) to give more of an idea.

I don't really know a lot about cars, but I'm hoping someone here might know what's involved in fixing a leak like this and an estimate of time a garage would take doing the job as I don't want to get ripped off.

Also what potential damage will it cause? As I'm not sure how long it's been like this.

Thank you.

30-60 minutes each side to replace.

Potential damage? If you carry on with the leaks then eventually you will run out of gearbox oil. Very expensive to fix. (might take a while to run out of oil completely though)

Wherever you park will eventually end up with an oil patch.

If you don't routinely monitor the gearbox oil level and ever allowed it to get low, that could be expensive.

People who work on your car might complain about it being covered in oil along with the grit that it will attract.

I haven't noticed any oil patches. So I'm not sure on the severity of it. Or how long it's been like that.

I do notice some juddering of the car when I set off in first and up to 2nd sometimes (but not all the time)

I've been quoted £200 for the job.
Does this seem reasonable for doing both sides?

I rang one garage who said it was rare for both the boots and the seals to need doing?
But if the seals were in need of replacement, would it make sense to get new boots too?

I do seem to notice going uphill my car seems like it's struggling a bit and needs to drop down a gear where before it didn't.

Yes they need changing

Wont effect the cars running though, so you have another fault

When you take the drive shaft out to replace the seal you're half way to removing the boot anyway so it's worth considering. Unless it's especially difficult on that car I wouldn't bother replacing the boots unless they had failed (or looked likely to fail soon) or the CV was being replaced. But maybe the person advising to replace them could see that they needed replacing.
