Hi,

For as long as i can remember I've been lucky enough to have a company car which includes personal use. This time around i was told that i would be able to take an allowance and with that allowance i've worked out that i'm able to comfortably afford a Golf GTD.

I found the best deal and placed my order 12/10/18 with an estimated lead time of 20-25 weeks, not ideal but not even VW can get me one any earlier, and they wanted a lot more money.

On the VW website there is a "track my order" option, so i've chased the lease company a few times for an order number. They've told me that their supplier doesn't have this yet but they'll get updates for me on a weekly basis.

I have a friend of a friend who works for VW, he's said that it's exactly the same for him as it's not possible for him to even place an order on a GTD yet, both my friend and my lease companies supplier have said that they've closed the books on orders until Feb/March 2019.

Having zero experience in buying a car brand new or leasing a car from new, does anybody have any input on if the 20-25 lead time from October still stands? Or will that 20-25 timescale start from Feb/March?

I have no issues with the company i've leased it through, the main issue is VW, but i'm curious as to what it all means.

Thanks in advance,

I’d investigate this further. VW have dropped the GTD indefinitely, so if the order has not been placed (and given you’ve not got an order number then that’s what I’d expect), then the factory won’t take an order for one.

What he said. I don’t think you’ll see a GTD for a very long time, if ever.

FWIW, see this article – https://www.pistonheads.com/news/features/the-long...

Might return for the MK8, might not!

I was looking at this as I am thinking about changing my car.

If you download the current price list - https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new/golf-vii-pa/which...

every single of the 2018 model range states

"Please note these models may no longer be available to order, or only available from stock and not available to factory order"

If you go to the back there is the 2019 models which says " These vehicles are WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure) type approved vehicles". there's also pages which detail the spec later on. I suspect that it's taken a long time for them to get the pricing through. Also, the price is "TBA".

The price list is effective October 2018,.

It's not just VW though.

If you look at the 'main. brands none of them have sporty diesels at the moment!

Having re-read my email from the lease company I’ve seen:

So as it stands at the moment your vehicle has been ordered but it has not been accepted at the factory yet

———
So there may be hope yet. This entire thing is wearing me out. How difficult can it be to order a car!

20-25 weeks is a long time to wait for a Golf, aren’t there other options you could go for?

I wouldn’t mind waiting that long for a car if it was mine to keep with a unique spec, e.g an individual BMW but 20-25 weeks for a company car Golf, not sure. Are there no other options?

Your lease company need to be doing more to find out what is happening from the supplying dealer. Put it to them that information would indicate that VW aren’t building anymore GTDs and see what they say. Get on the Live Chat facility on the VW website and ask them if the factory is taking any more GTD orders. Personally I would think it is doubtful they are.

@Chestrockwell

I'll be keeping it for 4 years, i've always had to have the bottom of the range company cars, megane, punto, focus etc.. and this is the first chance i've had to take on an allowance. The golf ticks all the boxes for being a hatchback, diesel, nippy with a lovely interior. I really love the active info dash.

@Andrew
I'll get back on to the lease company today in that case. I did have a Live Chat with VW yesterday and i was told that they've closed the order books until the end of January. If my order was put in then it would still abide to the 25-20 week lead time. But they also said that if i ordered one now i'd be looking at 25 weeks... which then contradicted the part in which they said they're taking no orders.

It just seems i'm not getting a definitive answer from the lease company or VW themselves. It's really infuriating.

Given my current experience with a Polo GTI company car I’d be very dubious. Ordered it in June, delivery end of March. Two weeks ago told end of June....

It’s a p*xy Polo!

Plus as others have said GTD’s seemingly can’t be ordered anymore.

Given the st we’ve had with our Golf, bought new in 2016, we won’t be indulging again. Crap cars, and that includes all the courtesy cars we were given while ours was being endlessly fixed.

As per all the other posts the GTD isn't manufactured anymore. Given the factory haven't accepted your order I don't think you'll be getting the car frown

To save waiting indefinitely it will probably be better to cancel now and swap for something else. Trouble is there aren't really any other cars out there which are as good all round as a GTD...

A new page has appeared on their website. It says

"Can’t find the Golf you’re looking for?
Some of our cars are still being tested under new industry wide standards for fuel consumption and emissions (WLTP type approval). This means you may not be able to find all engines you would expect to see for the Golf.
If you’d like more details on forthcoming models take a look at our pricelist, contact your local retailer or sign up to be notified when more information is available."

Then there's a page which is called "Keep informed" https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new/golf-vii-pa/engin...

The GTD has also re appered on the website and is on the 2019 price list - just does not say when

Hi,

Yeah the lady on VW live chat was saying that they're re-opening the order books for the GTD the end of January.

I feel like i'm in a worse position now than when i started the thread, i'll 100% get in touch with my lease company tomorrow and ask them to chase it up just to find out what is happening.

Mercedes have released some new A class diesel engines since i test drove the abysmal A180, so that may be an option...but the only optional extra i selected on the GTD was a reversing camera because everything else came standard, looking at the Merc it seems like you have to add things to get it to a similar spec.

Shame.

If you need the car by a certain date then everything is too vague to go ahead on this car, particualrly if they won't even accept your order. 20 weeks plus is a nonsense on a mass produced car - they're basically saying "TBA".

You have to go with what you can get - within our family we buy a new car most years and hav enever waited for than a few weeks. One of our daughters got a SEAT Ateca a couple of months ago and that was delivered 3 weeks after ordering it. Wife's Tiguan a couple of years ago took 8 days.

+1 for my new GTI, not a single problem nor even a squeek or rattle from the interior.

It's not overly important as the car i currently drive is owned by our company, so as soon as i get the GTD i can hand that one back and they'll then sell it or use it as a back-up pool car.

Pick Mrs Ubbs a used one up on Friday, gtd estate with dsg in tungsten silver on an 18 plate with 2.5k miles it’s to replace her Skoda Octavia vrs estate that she’s had for 3 years, I like all the new tech that’s standard now so we’ll see how this one is over the next 3 years.
