Hi all

I apologise if this has been answered; I have searched but couldn't find anything specific.

I've bought a 2006 530d M Sport which I absolutely love - it's not as speedy as my previous RX8 R3 and ST220 but it's a lovely drive and I love it (especially after I get it remapped 😈).

My specific question is in relation to the audio system, which although is good I'd like to upgrade. I'd have ideally liked a double DIN head unit with a sub in the boot. I contacted a local audio electrician who replied with this:

"Afternoon Becky

It doesn't look I can replace your head unit on this model as it is a two part system .. the only thing I can suggest is retro fitting a Bluetooth phone kit and or a DAB receiver .. alternatively a genuine bmw unit of higher spec ? "

I was wondering what you all think of this advice? I'm happy paying £1k or so but seems pants that they can't upgrade it? When I had my RX8 previous engineers managed and had to order in a new fascia so I looked on eBay and they have them for my BMW for sale but I honestly don't know enough about it all tbh.

Thanks Bex X

Pain to upgrade, as the screen/iDrive controls the heating, OBC, etc.

Looks like you've got the basic system - small screen up top and a single CD slot? Fit an upgraded BMW system with big screen and twin optical drive slots. Add tweeters in the front doors and under seat subs.

If you want bluetooth and USB, look at Dension Gateway modules. These emulate a CD changer.

Thanks for that - so you suggest upgrading the screen and the speakers?

Do you know if the "new" idrive would work? Or would I just consider the older idrive but 8" professional version?

e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bmw-E60-E61-E63-E64-CIC...tongue outf:0

Thanks

Yes the newer CIC pro nav will work. Not a straight forward install, you will need to code it to the car.

Just spoken to a friend, who knows someone who is breaking a 2004 530d. Fitted with professional head unit and big screen. Not sure what speakers.
I can put you in touch if you are interested.

I've got his number, but I can't send you a message. You don't have an email address set up on the forum
