OK, so this won't be, but it is most the expensive I've seen in a while. I'm glad I ate prior to arrival, my per diem just about covers the club sandwich.
Can anyone do better?

Hotel we stayed at in Geneva wanted £7 per egg for breakfast.

Needless to say we popped out for breakfast.

That's not too bad compared to any of the top end Paris hotels where room service doesn't usually have menus. You order what you want at any time of day or night and it gets added to the bill which for a week ends up looking like the hospitality equivalent of the invoice for a loaded 7 series. Thankfully for me I was never on the wrong end of the bill. Either way, room service is always a royal rip off.

The French are still stuck with this idea that they're food kings, when actually they don't have a clue. So many restaurants are like fast food joints.

I was amazed to see at a Boston hotel I stayed in a few months ago that they wanted around $45 (£35) for a HALF bottle of red wine.

There was a big wine shop visible from the hotel room window. We went to the wine shop.

You've only got to stay for a second night and it quickly adds up.

I saved up my Hilton points from a year of staying in the Swindon Doubletree and took Mrs Q to the Cavalieri in Rome.

€32 for a club sandwich plus €8/person delivery charge. Regular breakfast was €45/person, the imperial breakfast was €220 for two. Plus delivery.

We didn't have breakfast.

...no doubt involving some swanky London hotel and a couple of east European hookers.

This is what you get for 80 euros at the Cavalieri rofl this was ordered from the bar so didn't have to pay the service charge, however when you add the chips.......

I think most of these places must just bank on guests paying with company money and can't be arsed to leave the hotel, I wouldn't think many people would spend their own.

The food is nearly always rubbish and you have to wait ages for it to turn up, normally cold.

This. I used to work at a high-ish end hotel. There were chefs in 24 hrs a day, but the room servicr overnight was always cooked and prepared by restaurant staff who stayed on. It never looked very good, and the menu suited the unskilled staff as it was all very easy to prepare. It always looked pretty poor compared to what we usually served and would often sit on the pass for fifteen or twenty minutes drying out before it was taken off.

Club sandwich at the Crowne Plaza in Zurich was around £25 the other day. Mind you, it's just as expensive outside the hotel! Still love Zurich though smile

I always make sure that the suite I stay in comes with its own chef so I don't have to worry about this sort of thing.

There are things I'm not prepared to spend my own money on. Hotel room service is something I'm not even prepared to spend my multi billion dollar employer's money on!
