m135 heater issue

M135 F21 drivers side hot air from the vents isnt hot whilst the passenger side is hot. Dealer talks of need to remove the dashboard to replace the heater matrix at a cost approaching £1000.

Hints on various posts on the net that this isnt an uncommon problem. Does anyone know anything about it? Anyone had this issue and solved it?
