I'm thinking of trading in my MT-09 for something newer, and torn between the Triumph Speed Triple RS, and the Triumph Tiger 1200.

I love triples, will be using it for long commutes and touring, and have heard great things about both bikes. Thoughts?

I know all the good bits about both bikes, any downsides?

Dont ignore the 1050 Tiger sport either brilliant engine but better comfort and weather protection too.
I tied the speed RS fantastic engine but too much weight on my wrists and very hard ride and seat.
So I rode the Tiger sport and loved it and bought it

I’ve got a speed rs, I’ll tour on it next year but also track it. Definelty a inbetween is the tiger sport, cracking bike, great deals on it At the mo as they will definelty upgrade it next year.
Don’t get the panniers and top box they weigh a ton!
The new tiger 1200 is a lovely bit of kit but unless you’re doing mega miles she’s a big ol girl.

It has to be the Speed Triple. I had an Explorer 1200 XRT as a courtesy bike last year. I had made proper use of it and got to grips with it and found it a seriously impressive touring machine, utterly loaded with technology. Every bit as good as a GS, which is clearly what Triumph were aiming for.

Buuuuuuuut....

It's not a bike you'd love. You don't glance back for a second look at it. It's very smooth and quick, but not in an exciting fashion. The Speed Triple is, I think, just an absolutely ideal machine for larking about on. People tour on nakeds too, though I'm not sure what luggage options are available, particularly with the high level exhausts.

I'd take the Speed Triple. Full disclosure, I've wanted a Speed Triple for years and in all the time I've been going to Triumph for service and MOT, it's about the only bike I've not had a loan of.

I think I'll be swapping my MT09 for a Tiger 800 next year, seems to tick all the boxes for me, although I'll probably end up on a Speed Triple, I'm sick of the bloody windblast on naked bikes, 80mph cruising is just noisy and painful.

I've got a mk1 Tiger 800, and it's great. I expect the new mk3 is fantastic. That said, the new BMW 750GS and 850GS are meant to be very good too, although they're twins not triples.

Weird, I don't think the Tiger Sport is sold in Canada. Not sure on the looks of that anyway.

Thing is I have a couple of bikes I can use on a warm commute, but I don't have anything that is good on a cold & windy commute. Looking for something more comfortable and less wind blast. But not so comfortable/tourer looking that it's an old giffer's bike. laugh
