I've got a new alternator, need to swap the pulley over from the old one..

Any tips/advice?

Not much room.. I know the shortened version is undo the nut and swap, and it definitely involves an allen key.. laugh

You will struggle to lock the alternator to stop it rotating with the gun though?

I don't struggle doing it this way unless the shaft and nut are rusted together, this is the best method for removing any alternator pulleys and is recommended for pressed steel pulleys

Anyway, you asked for advice and now question it when given

You don't need to lock it with a good windy gun, Dan, holding the pulley in a leather gloved hand is usually sufficient as the hammer action does the work.

I apologise for questioning your method, brought them in to work today, got a gun on them and boom. Off. Thank you for your suggestion. I wrongly thought it would spin the alternator up, having had little to do with windy guns in my time.

Wrapped the pulley in a cloth and held it as someone else gunned the nut off.. Job's a good'un. Lesson learnt.

No problem, you weren't to know I've removed thousands of them, I'm glad you got it off
