Hi all, hope you can help.

Have agreed to buy a used car.

Used car had a private plate on it.

Owner has today put the plate on retention, been given a new registration with certificate and has put new registration plates on the car.

However!

I wanted to pick the car up this weekend, but I'm not sure if I'm able to as the V5 he has will be for his old plate and not the new one.

How do I get around this?

Many thanks!

The guy you're buying the car from will receive a new V5 in the post in about 3-5 days from him putting the plate on retention (assuming he did it online). You won't be able to tax the car without the most up to date V5.

So I buy the car, write a receipt and then wait for him to send me the V5 in the post?

I won't be the registered keeper until he gets the new V5, sends it off and sends me the new keeper part..... how does that work with insurance?

It's a bit of a balls up on his part really as he should have swapped the plates up prior to advertising I guess.
