Tsst... Tsssst Chaps you really must stop reading The Sun etc and get yourself onto something decent.

Nobody picked up but according to yesterdays Times then in July ACPO are to firm up and launch the Speed Awareness Course to all and sundry caught over the limit i.e.

-------------8<------ Cut Here --------->8----------

30 mph driving up to 37 mph
40 mph ............. 48 mph
50 mph ............. 59 mph
60 mph.............. 70 mph
70 mph ............. 81 mph
(i.e. 10% + 2 + 2

Stick on Dashboard.
------------8<-------Cut Here ---------->8-------------

This scheme has been piloted in certain areas and now AC Pooh think it should be Nationwide. It will cost the offender 60 notes for the Course and half a day of his time. Whilst originally planned that the offender would travel to the area where caught, was stated Course will be run local to where resident.

Only one course every three years will be allowed and details entered on a data-base.

Those over the above limits will be processed as per normal. CO or Court with fine and Penalty.

Now I know I am a sad Joe but I would have thought that those just clipping over the limit are not so much in need of the Course than those that exceed by a greater margin.

Please discuss in less than 10,00 words.

DVD, I am not sure I agree with your assessment on needs. Most serious speeders are very aware of the speed they are doing

DVD,
you showed offenders 'driving up to 37mph' in a 30 will be subjected to the governments mental conditioning program; do you know what the lower limit of enforcement will be, or did they keep that quiet? (probably meaning 31)

Presumably, a speed awareness course consists of being shown film of deaths resulting from crashes and having to look as if you mean it when you repeat the mantra that "speed kills". Presumably it will not consist of driving instruction designed to make the participants observe better in order to be more aware at all times of the environment in which they drive.

I did read this yesterday in the times and thought it was a disgraceful bit of reporting. Totally biased, and was peddling the old 1/3 lies amoungst other things. Bit miffed really, because the Times is my daily read..hope its not going to way of the gurdyan...

£60 for a half day watching video's and being lectured by a numptie?

Lets say 30 people to a class..

They make approx £3,600 per day for the use of a room/video player and numptie.

Its not about the money though

Whats the betting it will be in venues that don't have allocated parking, so you come out to a nice parking ticket too.
(like the parking complaints office near me which is surrounded by residents parking zones/yellow lines)

Me, sceptical?

You have another option then. Take the ticket or summons

Actually I reckon this is right. Those that break the limit because they are numpties and have no clue what the limit is and little ability to keep the car neatly under it will get some education.

If you are doing 45mph in a 30 its because you wanted to, and did it quite deliberately and "malice aforethought".

I know when I am speeding. I choose to speed, and break the law, when I consider it totally safe, the likelihood of discovery suitably low, and the consequences acceptable should I be caught.

No amount of "Speed Awareness" training is going to change that approach to driving - whereas it could do some good to a numpty.

Oh...and if I was offered the chance of a course instead of points of course I'd take it...

With respect I think your conclusion is unsound, sorry.

There you go, whether you meant 10.00 or 10,000 words I reckon I've complied either way.

On the other hand you may be emulating those furriners that use a comma where we would expect to find a decimal point.

Best wishes all,
Dave - nit picker extraordinaire.

This is BAD. It means that rather than the scameras having a 10% + 2 grace, anyone within that marging gets sent for "re-education" at the same cost as a speeding ticket with a far greater proportion of that going to the scameratti. Whats more when the re-educated is released back onto the roads he/she will only need to go 1mph over the limit for points.

I'd much rather see those same people be put on an advanced driving course tbh. It would do much more for saftey, even taking into consideration those who ignored the teachings.

They can present the material, but they can never make me care
