I have a reasonably moden LG TV (a 2017 OLED55B7V) which has been happily running BBC's iPlayer app for months.

And then last week iPlayer stopped working.
When I launch the app it just sits at the "BBC iPlayer loading" screen, and then does nothing else. All the other apps on the TV work fine, and the iPlayer app works fine on other devices in the house.

There are no pending updates of either the TV or the iPlayer app, which I've removed and reinstalled, but still no success.

The BBC website has generic suggestions (reboot, update, check network) and a article that says;

iPlayer Help said:
"We’re now investigating reports of BBC iPlayer not loading on connected TV devices with our service partners.
..but as there's on date on it, it could be from last week, or 5 years ago.

Anyone else experienced this issue, or hear of something simlar?

I've had something similar with a Sony TV.

Seems like there's a cookie issue with the built in web browser which bleeds into Youtube and possibly other video apps as well on the TV.
The accepted solution is to load the web browser on your smart TV, find where the cookies are in the settings menus and clear them.
Then load iPlayer. I've had to do this 3-4 times in a few days.

Give that a try although YMMV as my problem was with Youtube not iPlayer.

I dug around in the TV's menu and cleared both the system cookies (I had to enable them before I could clear them!), and then cleared the TV's browser history (not that I'd used it), but no joy, the iPlayer app is still stuck on loading.

Cheers for the suggestions, I'd never have thought of that, but I can see the logic and it's something else off the list!

I tried iplayer this morning on the tv and it is now demanding you sign-in and doesn't have an option to bypass or not sign-in. This might be the issue, the version of the app on your tv might not be compatible with latest change.

The previous time I used iPlayer on the LG, I encountered this change. I had to create an iPlayer account, link the app on the TV to the new account, and then it all worked fine, until the next time I tried to use iPlay on it when I encountered the "loading" issue.

Interestingly, iPlayer running on an AppleTV connected to an older Samsung TV at my desk still doesn't require an iPlayer login, but the native app on the LG in the living room does.

Bit of thread resurrect, anyone else still having these issues? I have an LG OLEDC8 and iPlayer is constantly having issues, either the app doesn’t load or it’s not loading programmes, have to restart tv 2 or 3 times before it works and loads the programme. IPlayer is the only app with issues, even itv app works fine!

I helped a client yesterday that had all his TV's no longer working with Plex media Server, I worked out that he had updated it and it was no longer supported by his TV's.

Lucky I found a old version on his PC and reloaded it and it worked for him.

I have a HP micro as a Plex server and it still works if I do not update it.

Maybe the problem is your Iplayer updated and the TV app can no longer read / play it.
