Change of work role means meeting more clients, and wearing a suit on occasion.

Where to go for a decent suit for a middle aged IT geek. Basically need to be as smart as possible while still looking intelligent, and preferably costing no more than a few hundred quid.

My last few suit came from M & S paperbag but I was quite happy with them.

I'm sure this has been asked before but it's the kind of information that gets out of date.

I got mine from Slaters. They offer free tailoring, the choice is vast and good value for money.

M&S still do a decent suit. Buy off the rack and get it altered by a tailor and you will look good.

Reasonable stuff from T.M.Lewin and Brooks Tavener -
Both with ferocious discounting at the moment.

Also only order one thing - they'll email you again within 24hrs with an even bigger discount code....
Slightly lower down the pecking order is Samuel Windsor https://www.samuel-windsor.co.uk/shop.cfm/designer...
Added bonus is they have working cuffs, unheard of in this price range..... Tbf you'd never know they are sub £150 a pop

The most important thing to do is to know how a suit should fit when you buy one. The closer it is to fitting properly the less tailoring will be required. It’s easy to shorten arms, bring the coat waist in etc but it’s far more costly to alter the shoulders and the like.

This, or slaters.

Next do some nice suits but you run the risk of trying to look trendy instead or smart.

Consider vintage suits from Ebay.

I've paid as little as a tenner, up to about £65 (and that one's always commented on). A couple have gone straight to the charity shop, but overall I'm happy. More fun as well!

I’d say Aquascutum but that tells you the last time I bought a suit!

Depends on the sector I would say.

I used to go to Aquascutum but had a few comments so now it’s just M&S all the way plus it’s way to mix and match if something happens while your out and about.

Must admit, I have a few from M&S and they are excellent.

No need for all this made to measure faff.

This is PH, so obviously the answer is Huntsman, or at the very least G&H.

Alternatively, Moss bros have a wide selection.
Huntsman are completely the wrong style for what the OP’s asking.

As suggested above, a decent off the peg suit which is then fitted by a decent adjustment tailor.

I like some of Lewins’ suits or Hugo Boss, and have them fitted properly afterwards. Most people who notice them assume that they were made for me,
