I'm now (hopefully) in the position where I can buy a cheap TVR - but which one?
I've up to recently I had my heart set on an S but now I've had my head turned by a wedge. Then my brother (who works for a certain company that makes 4x4's )said he could probably get me a cheap 4.6 V8 to slot in a wedge.
So what to do? follow my heart and get an S with reasonable performance or get a wedge with the ability to upgrade it to full nutter bastard engine.

A 4.6 in a Wedge is not even close to full nutter bastard status.... It's about "half slightly crazy I think my parents were engaged" status.
Go to www.t-v-r-services.co.uk and look what Pete and I have been doing to a poor unsuspecting V8S and 390SE. BTW the engine was the easy bit... upgrading the rest of the car to cope was a real challenge.

I think going the full hog with a spec like your 520 may be a little too much for my first TVR. I was thinking that I'd start of with something I could handle (S or 350i) then when I *needed* more I would have to either sell the S (the V8S is probably out of my budget at the moment) and buy something else or upgrade the wedge. The wedge route would easier/cheaper, but I do like the S and it is a little more modern & refined compared to the rawness of a wedge.
I guess I'm just going to have to drive a few of each then see if my decision is any easier.

Wise words indeed. Drive a few and talk to some owners and see what makes you look forward to a 400 mile trip to the shops...
